The missing sessions
Same effort. Same times.
For years.
Your bike gets stronger every season. Your run comes along. But your freestyle sits at exactly the pace it's been at: and the only advice anyone gives is "just swim more."
Here's what that misses: freestyle speed is a skill, and skills only improve with reps. But the swim is the one discipline you can't repeat on demand. It's locked behind pool hours, a drive, a lane to book. Two sessions a week, the stroke fades in between, and you spend half of every session just finding it again.
The pace won't move because you can't get the reps. Not talent. Not effort. Frequency.
Freestyle speed comes down to the propulsion half of your stroke: the catch, pull and push that drive you forward. It's built from technique and swim-specific strength, and both come from doing the movement, again and again.
Nothing else in your week uses that movement. Not the bike, not the run, not the gym. So on two pool sessions it never sticks: and you've had no way to see what your stroke is actually doing. You've been trying to fix the most technical part of your race completely blind.
15 to 35 minutes. Between pool days.
